Receiving inter-library loan documents
If the British Library is able to supply the document you ordered, you’ll be emailed a link from the email address noreply@bldss.bl.uk. You’ll then have 30 days to download the document. To be able download and view the document, you’ll need the following:
- An account with the British Library On Demand service. Register with the British Library.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader version 10 or later installed on your device. Free download of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- You can test whether British Library On Demand documents will open on your device. Download a single-page test PDF.
How to download your document
Click the download link in the email you received from the British Library.
You’ll be taken to a web page with two steps. Step 1 is to register with the British Library. If you’ve already done that, you can straight to Step 2 and type in your email address, then click ‘Download your document’.
Once you’ve downloaded your document, make sure it’s saved in your downloads folder. Some browsers such as Google Chrome have built-in PDF viewers, but using this won’t work for this type of British Library PDF. You’ll therefore then need to open your document with Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 10 or later) by going to the Adobe Acrobat Reader app and choosing File > Open and navigating to your downloaded document. Once you open the document, you’ll need to put in your British Library username and password (not your Shibboleth username and password).
Printing the document
Remember, you can only print your document once, so make sure your printer has enough ink and paper, and is working properly before sending the print job.
